The winery opened in 2002 and in 2018 an expansion including a larger tasting room that houses a restaurant was added.
The winery is located on 55 acres along a ridge overlooking 1-64 in the Indiana Uplands AVA. It is easily accessed via Hwy 62 and located 2 miles from I-64 Exit 72 and four miles from I-64 Exit 79.
We honor our German heritage by producing German-inspired wines—that is, grapes vinted from wine varieties typically grown in Germany and wine styles such as Winzerwald’s famous spiced & herbed wines such as Gluhwein and Mai Wein. We also produce wines made from American grapes and French-American hybrids that grow in our vineyards and here in the Midwest. A great selection of fruit wines are also offered and produced in a full-bodied fruit-forward style.
On-site you will find the tasting room, restaurant, gift shop, office, and a portion of the production facility in the main building. Children of all ages are welcome at the winery but only if accompanied by a parent or adult designated by the parent. Children must remain seated with their parents/group as required at all restaurants for their safety and should not run around on the winery premises.
For the safety of our guests and because all seating and gathering areas indoors and out are operated under the restaurant food license, we cannot allow pets on the property.
Picnicking is not allowed anywhere on the premises in accordance with our food license for the restaurant. We cannot allow any outside food, drink, coolers, etc. on the property.
Inside and outside seating is available to enjoy your food and wine or enjoy regularly scheduled entertainment and wine events.
Our new on-site Chambourcin and Vidal Blanc vineyard adjoin the winery. On the lane into the winery, you will pass our new Traminette vineyard. Our 26-year-old vineyard is located on our 5-generation farm on a peninsula surrounded by the Ohio River on three sides, 1/2 hour south of the winery. There in the sandy river soils grow our Marechal Foch and German mystery grape used to ferment our Heirloom wine. To hear the story of our ancestors bringing these grapes when they emigrated read our German heritage story.
Our paid tasting offers you up to 8 samples of wine for $6.00. Our winetenders are known as some of the friendliest in Indiana and we invite you to visit for a guided tasting. In addition to foods on the menu at the on-site Wein Kitchen restaurant, the tasting room deli cases offer an array of artisan and specialty cheeses from across the Midwest, crackers, sausages, and snacks to enjoy with your wine. Tours are available by appointment by calling the winery in advance.
Winzerwald Winery is a founding and current member of the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail and Grape Grower’s Cooperative. Winzerwald and eight other wineries along the trail offer a passport program and year-round ticketed and non-ticketed events.
